Some thoughts

So, did everyone catch the story about the woman in Germany who was 'killed because she wore the hijab'? I'm not going to get into that, maybe that was the reason and the guy who killed her was a crazy racist ... or maybe they both overreacted on some level (I mean, what were they doing in court in the first place, what exactly happened - did she sue him, or how did he end up in court for calling her whatever he called her (which, yeah, was probably out of line regardless of how you spin it)) ... I'm not going to get into the details. But here's a thought. Based on a quote from the article.

What would have happened if a German woman had been killed by a Muslim in a courtroom? Wouldn't that have gotten more attention in the media than this case has gotten? Maybe so. But I can promise you that if the situation had been reversed, if a German had been killed by an Egyptian in exactly this same way, then no way in hell would we have seen Germans marching in the street, calling anti-Egyptian slogans and demanding a boycott against Egypt. That just would absolutely not have happened. Anyone who says it would is a liar.

One more thought on this, though: Both these people, the killer and the victim, were immigrants. The killer, a racist bastard, is Russian. Oh, why am I not surprised ...

On the seven o'clock news tonight there was a segment about the situation in China, and they were talking about how the authorities were just looking to establish peace in the region and make sure that Han Chinese can be secure in the area and some more shit like that. OK, well, maybe if you stop killing the Uighurs then there might be a little more peace and quiet. People don't like being killed just because they belong to some random ethnic group. It creates civil unrest ... something I had actually thought that any given Chinese government would know a lot about. Huh.

And there was a segment on the G8 summit too ... some protesters were interviewed saying that they hope the G8 leaders will use this opportunity to really do something for the world, because climate change is so devastatating to so many poor people and something desperately needs to be done. True dat. But does anyone really think that the G8, or the G20 for that matter, will do jack shit to seriously change that? Forget it, they won't. We're fucked. La la la la la ...

same sh!t everytwhere.
A brawl among the 'traveller' community here was deemed negative stereotyping of an ethnic group by their spokesgroup, they said the same thing would not have been on the news if the fight was between 'settled' people.
The Estate was closed down 30 people were arrested(that were the ones caught) after they had to get air support, 8 homes and caravans were burned down, they were armed with blades, bats, and axes and other lethal weapons.

What a story ... !! :-o But then again I have heard some really crazy things about 'travellers' in Ireland and the UK ... In this country, in and around Oslo, we have gypsies who are pretty much the same. Blech. >:-(

I blame the Americans for bringing in the culture of making the criminal a victim

It's partly that, and it's partly this whole sense of entitlement thing that's so prevalent in Western societies these days. I mean, this idea that everyone's automatically entitled to ... 'do what you feel like', to borrow the words of Bart Simpson. ;-) So many people think that they have the right to make demands before they have made a contribution. Does that make sense?
