When people say that 'those Eastern countries are just totally dominating the contest these days' and that 'all those Eastern countries just push their own songs regardless of the quality' and all that shit, they aren't talking about Macedonia. A decade's worth of participating starting in 1996, and their best result ever is 12th. o_O That was with a tacky but catchy entry in 2006.
Anyway ... considering this track record, I was pleasantly surprised by their entry this year. Not half bad ... far from it, in fact. Catchy, a good melody with a good beat. Kudos for singing in Macedonian. Yes, I agree that the rapper guy is pretty embarrassing ... but we can't have it all. Overall this is an entry that I don't think will do all that well, it's a bit too anonymous for that ... it's good while you're listening to it but there isn't much to make it really stick in the memory afterwards. But it's certainly not half bad. I wouldn't be surprised if they get to the final with this. :-)
FYI, the name of this country is just Macedonia, but in the EBU universe they are forced to go by the name of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (abbreviated FYR) because the Greeks have a stupid hangup.
This is Gjoko Taneski performing Jas ja imam silata by Kristian Gabroski, who will be competing for Macedonia on Tuesday, May 25th. Good luck! :-)

The Greeks don't have a stupid hangup, they just want to protect what they diserve. They want to protect their history, which nowadays is in danger. This country should not be named as "Macedonia". Macedonia is a part of Greece and it will remain greek for ever. Now, when it comes to the song of FYROM, it sucks...! Maybe it's the worst song in the 55th ESC...........
No, it is not stupid, it's fascist and moronic. To interfere in other people's name?!? What are you? A prison ward or a concentration camp guard? So you have the right to change our name to some number?
7 billion people have disputer with others regarding different things, including names of territories. But, only 2 million Macedonians are deprived of the basic human right of nationality.
BTW, Go Macedonia! Go Armenia! (My wife's of Armenian descent :)
Kupe
Skopje, Macedonia
It's not fascist nor moronic. Yes, all the people of the world has the right to manage your name and change it. The Greek people have the right to manage it as they want, because they have one more reason. They and Macedonia are Greeks.
It is fascist AND moronic. Nobody asks you to change your name. Your government ask us...
So, as our human rights champion put it - you choose Greek Macedonian, we choose ethnic Macedonians. Different enough? You have Eastern, Central and Western Macedonia PROVINCES i.e. not a legal international person and we have REPUBLIC of Macedonia.
Unless you want to change your name to Republic of Macedonia, too. Even if you change your name to Republic of Greece and Macedonia it would be different than Republic of Macedonia.
BUT, even that your government claims that it is ONLY about the name of the country, it is not... But that's another story.
So, I am, hopefully, coming to spend my 25th vacation in Polichrono, Chalkidiki, Macedonia, Greece, real soon... Does that make me a danger to your country? Or it is good as your country is in deep economical sh*t right now?
Enlighten me why don't you speak up against Bulgarians putting monuments of Phillip II in Plovdiv, but you tend to care about our monuments? And why don't you put the monument of Alexander in Athens?
Instead of ancient history diving us, it should connect us. Our histories were interwoven - there is no Macedonian Wall between our countries and peoples and there never was one...
It makes me wonder if you would still consider it a stupid hangup if tomorrow a country neighboring yours decided to call itself, for example, Ostlandet.
Except that we didn't decide today...
